Sometimes the best movies to watch, are actually the worst. There is a plethora of cinematic gold out there, waiting to be uncovered by the discerning eye. It may not be the type of gold the filmmakers were aiming for, but who cares? Entertainment is entertainment. If you’re in the mood for hilarity, but you’ve exhausted the comedy section of Netflix, check out these cheese fests. With outrageous plots, not-so-scary villains, and unforgivable one-liners, you’re guaranteed a good laugh, or cry (if that’s your style).

List #7: Andrew O’Hehir’s top ten at Salon gave the number one slot to Andrea Arnold’s “Wuthering Heights.”

List #6: While a few documentaries slipped into some of these best lists, we think the best doc lists come from the Cinema Eye Honors, which are the unofficial Oscars of the documentary community. See all of their selections here: http://www.cinemaeyehonors.com/archives/press/cinema-eye-honors-announces-nominees-for-6th-annual-nonfiction-film-awards

List #5: Many of the best little indie films never make it to these lists, which is why the Gotham Award’s “Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You” is such a great list to check out each year.

This year their five titles were:

1. Kid-Thing
2. An Oversimplification of Her Beauty
3. Red Flag
4. Sun Don’t Shine
5. Tiger Tail in Blue

List #4: Fandor published a great list of the essential online videos of 2012.

They were:

1. Girl Walk // All Day
2. The Mitt Romney “47 percent” video
5. Call Me Maybe (Chatroulette Version)

List #3: Richard Brody’s List at the New Yorker, may be one of the smartest out there.

His top 5 were:

1. Holy Motors
2. Moonrise Kingdom
3. The Master
4. Oki’s Movie
5. This Is Not a Film

List #2: is not actually a list. But over at Hammer to Nail, Mike Ryan has judged Tabu to be not just the best film of 2012, but the best film so far this century. Wow. Read the review

List #1: And the best list is…a “Worst of” list. Our very favorite list of the year is Bilge Ebiri’s “‘Unclean! Unclean!’ The 10 Worst Films of 2012 (OR: A Bad Year for the Color Red)” which gave the worst film slot to What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

The rest of the list:

2. Red Lights
3. One for the Money
4. Good Deeds
5. Gone
6. The Paperboy
7. Big Miracle
8. Red Dawn
9. Red Tails
10. A Thousand Words

We’ve been approved by Apple and the new version of Flicklist is now in the app store. If you’ve received an invite code in the past, you can now download the latest version of the app here. If you haven’t yet received a member invite, just click here and register to get one. We’re releasing new memberships daily, and we promise we’ll get to you fast.

Why membership? Flicklist is built on the notion of trust. You follow people you trust for their film recommendations, just like you do in “real life.” You’re more likely to find someone you trust in Flicklist if you’ve been invited by someone you know. Second, we’re in beta, and we are still adding new features, so we want people we can trust to give us good feedback. So we decided to invite people we know and trust first, and give them early access to Flicklist, but also let them invite their trusted friends. From the beginning, we’ve also gotten emails from people who really, really wanted to use Flicklist, so we decided that anyone who wanted to use the app enough to contact us would be added to our trusted friends list and given an early invite as well. These invites have gone out, and people are inviting new trusted friends daily.

As we get more users, and let them kick the tires a bit, we’ll add more people, and we’ll open the doors to everyone soon. So sign up – you’ll get a membership code soon, we promise.
