The Julia Roberts List

We’re celebrating Julia Roberts’s birthday with a list inspired by a remarkable twenty-five-year career.  One of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Roberts has brought life to romantic comedies and depth to emotional dramas.  She caught the eye of directors like Soderbergh and Altman, won an Oscar for her portrayal of Erin Brockovich, and, at the age of 47, has admirably resisted entertainment industry pressure to get plastic surgery.  Yes, she’s much more than just “America’s Sweetheart!”

The Alfred Nobel List

Alfred Nobel, the Swedish scientist and inventor of dynamite, was born 181 years ago.  After a French newspaper mistakenly reported on his death with a headline calling the explosives manufacturer “the merchant of death”, Alfred decided to alter his legacy by establishing the Nobel Prizes.  Today we’re honoring that spirit with a list that celebrates exploration, innovation and discovery.  Science fact or science fiction, these films are about those who push the boundaries and expand our minds…in the laboratory and in the cinema.
